What You Will Learn: The Nine Strands
We teach every learning objective defined by Cambridge University Press & Assessment across all nine foundational strands:
| Strand | Key Topics & Learning Objectives |
|---|---|
| 1. Number | Types of number, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio and proportion, standard form, upper and lower bounds, money and personal finance. |
| 2. Algebra & Graphs | Algebraic expressions, linear & quadratic equations, simultaneous equations, inequalities, algebraic formulae, sequences, functions, graphs and gradients. |
| 3. Coordinate Geometry | Straight line equations (\(y = mx + c\)), gradients of parallel & perpendicular lines, length of a line segment, midpoint coordinates. |
| 4. Geometry | Angle properties of intersecting & parallel lines, angle sum of polygons, circle theorems, geometric constructions, scale drawings, line and rotational symmetry. |
| 5. Mensuration | Perimeter & area of plane figures, volume & total surface area of cylinders, cones, spheres, pyramids, composite three-dimensional solids. |
| 6. Trigonometry | Right-angled triangle ratios (sine, cosine, tangent), sine rule, cosine rule, area of triangle (\(\frac{1}{2}ab\sin C\)), 3D trigonometry and three-figure bearings. |
| 7. Vectors & Transformations | Column vectors, vector addition & scalar multiplication, magnitude of a vector, translation, reflection, rotation, enlargement, combined transformations. |
| 8. Probability | Single-event probability, mutually exclusive & independent events, sample space diagrams, tree diagrams, Venn diagrams and conditional probability. |
| 9. Statistics | Mean, median, mode, range from raw and grouped data, frequency polygons, cumulative frequency diagrams, quartiles, interquartile range, histograms. |
How Cambridge O Level Maths (4024) is Examined
Candidates take two compulsory components. Both papers carry equal 50% weighting toward the final grade:
Paper 1 (Non-Calculator)
Short-answer questions testing foundational arithmetic fluency, estimation, geometric proofs, and algebraic manipulation without electronic aid.
- Duration: 2 Hours
- Total Marks: 80 Marks
- Weighting: 50% of Total Qualification
- Calculator: Strictly Prohibited
Paper 2 (Calculator)
Structured multi-part problem solving, real-world finance, trigonometry, mensuration, and statistical diagrams requiring scientific calculator computation.
- Duration: 2 Hours 30 Minutes
- Total Marks: 100 Marks
- Weighting: 50% of Total Qualification
- Calculator: Scientific Calculator Permitted
How GOALPAc Teaches Mathematics
Students lose up to 15 marks per paper not from conceptual ignorance, but from algebraic sloppiness and negative-sign drops. We train step-by-step layout discipline from day one.
Dedicated 15-minute non-calculator drills at the start of every week to build mental division, fraction operations, index laws, and standard form manipulation.
We train students to understand how examiners award marks. Even if a final arithmetic answer is miscalculated, writing explicit mathematical working guarantees Method (M) marks.
